In Reply To: I have an MBA from a top B-school. Had a summer intership with good consulting firm (one of the top 5). However, physical illness during the summer & entire recruiting season (timing could not have been more perfect) was a complete hindrance to working with full enthusiam. Resultant, I was not comfortable throughout internship & could not create the desired impression I would usually expect of myself. NOW, I have a job!! Good company but not the top-notch consulting firms. Cannot give up on my dream of being with top 3. I TRULY BELIEVE that but for the perfect design of mishap I would have it to the top 3. However, I am not going to let anything dampen my spirits. Now, the issue is I am back to normal but the recruiting (BCG, MCk, Bain - oncampus) is all done. I have to follow my dream but need direction. Any advice?? I had interviews with BCG and Mck on campus but did not go thru for the same reason. Applying online will not help. I need to know some real people and some real positions available. Ready to do what it takes. Looking forward to some serious solutions from experienced people. Thank you
Message: It's rather unfortunate that you've missed interviewing with the Top 3 because of your illness, and I'm not sure what you could do. Did you inform them that you couldnt make it to the interview for certain reasons? Or were you too unwell to do that? If you did communicate this to them, I'm sure they will give you an appointment again, if they're still hiring. Else, I think that workign at a "good firm" is not that bad at all. You will be able to make more impact there most likely, if you feel you have it in you. It's a good thing to work for a big firm, but there's not much impact one can make until many years later..
