In Reply To: i think you missed the point of the argument. following the thread, i am inclined to agree with the wharton person. i think the wharton person is arguing that business school is more than just learning the fundamentals of business "mechanics" (i.e., accounting, options valuation, capital structure, etc.) i have kind of a unique perspective. i went to wharton undergrad. I got an MBA from kellog a year ago. Although there was much overlap in terms of the basic content, I got a heck of a lot out of the Kellogg experience, even in the overlapping courses. When you are an MBA and taking classes with primarily MBA students, you do get to draw on a variety of experiences. People from different work backgrounds also have way different perspectives on the subject matter. I'm sorry if this sounds like a recruiting poster for an MBA education, but I really felt I got a lot out of it beyond recruiting and the brand name. To the cynical poster, I truly hope you revise your views before going to business school. First it'll reflect in your essays and interviews and might preclude you from getting into a good program. Second, i think you'll get more out of it if you do. peace j
Message: In no way would I or did I dispute Wharton's claim... never have never will, check my history on the board. My point to Mr. Cynical was that assholes will be wherever you go... you can't let that taint your view of what could be a great experience ala an MBA education. By the same token I did agree with him to some degree that because one goes to a great school it does not make them great. I hardly think anyone can dispute that fact. No more no less.
