I just got promoted to associate after three years at a BB investment bank and was considering applying in a year or two to business school (looking at Columbia, NYU, Chicago or Wharton). The only problem is that my grades as an undergrad at a top ten school were horrible (south of 2.7). I was lucky to get an offer but since then, have done very well at my job and can get excellent recommendations. When I took the GMAT as a senior in college, i got a 780 and would probably do the same if I took to again.
Any hope of getting in? Or should I plan to be a career banker? |

I had a 2.48 at Williams, 740 GMAT, and 4 years experience in banking (UBS and then Warburg Dillon Read) (after 1 year of being a ski bum and 1 year travelling in Asia). I am now a student at CBS. After I was admitted, I spoke with the admissions staff to find out why they liked my application. They said that my GMAT score and my recomendations proved that I was not an idiot. They also stated that my essays were very good and that I did a good job explaining why my udergrad grades were poor and how I had matured since then. In short, if you can demonstrate that your grades are not reflective of your potential, and you have an interesting profile (essays, rec letters, etc), you stand a good chance of getting in. CBS is the only school I applied to, so I can't comment on what would happen at the other school's that you mentioned. Good luck.
