A message posted on this board recently stated that collusion is sometimes a factor in the admissions process. This individual also mentioned that several schools were taken to court for the practice. This is the first I've heard of it, though. Does anyone know the facts in the case? Does collusion still exist? While it's probably a non-factor (certainly not something we have any control over), I'm curious how much of an impact it could potential have... |

I haven't heard that, nor to I believe it. I think if it were true, I'd have heard something about the case.
I do think schools have a pretty similar profile of people they're looking for, but why would schools want to collude? So they can fight over a small number of people? Where is there any competitive advantage in that?
Who a school accepts contributes a great deal to the quality of the legacy of that school going forward. Unless all schools are happy with their relative standing, then those who wish to move, would probably try to gain competitive advantage by tilting their admissions to accept those people they think will best represent them after graduation.
If all schools adopt the exact same criteria, then they waste that opportunity.
