In Reply To: Quick question: I currently work in consulting and am making the switch to investment banking (M&A) this summer (go figure). My plan as it stands now is to continue at my current position through the first week of June, take about five weeks off to travel and change locales, and then start my new position around the second week of July. How will business schools view this time off, if at all? Should I stay at my current position for another week or two? Is this concern ridiculously misplaced? Please advise.
Message: You don't need to worry about a 5 week break in employment between 2 jobs. I'm not even sure it is significant enough to mention. If you feel better explaining it, go ahead. B-schools will understand why you or anyone else who has the opportunity would take time off to travel between 2 demanding jobs. I would say when you have 2 months + off between jobs, you need to explain what you were doing. Again, you don't need to worry that it will be viewed badly. B-schools just need to account for the time as they build an impression of you in your application.
