Hey, advanced math and statistics may not
have direct applications to business analysis, but that's not that the point. The point is that people who have studied those things have actually done something challenging and difficult, and have proven that they CAN master complex concepts...at least more substantial than fluffy econ without calc, or english lit. or whatever. Why take people with just business judgement when you can have people with that judgement AND quant skills? People who didn't study any math might be quantitative, but is sure doesn't show through very often.
