Being unique is a huge advantage. since there tons of apps from very qualified bankers and consultants, schools are looking for others to round out their programs. Fortunately, being unique is often a matter of how you 'pitch' yourself to the school. If your essays only talk about some big deal (bankers)or project(consultants) you worked on, you can virtually guarantee rejection. Talk about the interesting things you've done outside of work or some unique thing you'd like to pursue post-MBA. IMO, being unique can be a matter of pointing yourself in a different direction post-MBA rather than simply hailing from an off-beat background pre-MBA. |

No, I think uniqueness is definitely a disadvantage. Schools are looking for a very homogenous student body.
