He/She is not saying that the programs are racist. Since blacks are a minority in any top program, it is not as easy to fit in and find peers to share your MBA experience with. Some schools make the transition easier by reaching out to minority candidates. Schools like UVA, UNC, and Duke host minority receptions for potential applicants. There you get to meet and greet other applicants (you wind up seeing the same people at all of them). There was an earlier post from an A-A female who said to stay away from Harvard, however I have friends who went there and had a favorable experience. Also look for the website for the Consortium for Graduate Management Studies (the name is something like that). |

I can hopefully add some more encouragement here. Most top schools are desperate for qualified minority applicants! If you are qualified, you'll be a shoe-in to get into any of the top ten programs.
You'll also be hotly pursued by the top recruiters if you are a minority. Why? because there just aren't many of you represented, and these institutions want to better represent society.
Do something interesting for the next 4 years and apply. You'll probably get into Harvard or Wharton, and end up at GS or McKinsey.
So relax and have fun, because I assume all the schools will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
