I would like to know how the School of General Studies at Columbia is regarded by B-school admissions. As I understand it, the school is for non-traditional students, meaning those who are not just out of high school, those finishing a degree or changing career paths.
I fit this description in that I am seeking a bachelor's degree in economics, and I have earned a degree in French; this means I am older than the average undergrad student (26). Any word on what the reputation of this school is would be appreciated. I am not sure if it is well-regarded by b-schools, since it serves a different type of student, and is not as prestigious as Barnard or the other affiliates.
Thanks for any information given! |

I don't think a degree from the School of General Studies would be a hindrance on a B-school application. In fact, Ivy League degrees are viewed favorably by B-schools.
The larger question is why you decided to pursue a 2nd undgrad degree, when you already have one in French. How does your education fit in with your career? Do you bring valuable work experience to an MBA program? Can you demonstrate a good reason for getting an MBA? If you have not already built a strong career for yourself, you will face challenges in gaing admission to Top 10 schools. However, with strong work experience, you should be a strong applicant.
Hope this helps.
