This wasn't getting much play on the Investment Banking board, so I figured I'd toss it out here to get people's thoughts:
Given the extremely grueling hours in IBD, do banks shy away from married candidates at b-school or do married b-schoolers tend to self select out of IBD? I am not interested in the legal issues surrounding this question. We all understand that. My question concerns what ACTUALLY goes on. More to the point, if you were married would you take off your ring for an interview??? |

Maybe the majority of associates entering are single, but there are a lot of married people as well. You certainly are not in a disadvantage.
However, you might get a question, where you have to explain that you know what you're getting into and that you think are able to manage your marriage and career.
If your marriage is the reason you get dinged, you wouldn't want to work for that firm anyway,
So: If you know you want to do IBD, and your wife is OK with it. Give it a shot.
