In the last 2 months, starting law school salaries have gone through the roof...at the top 5 national firms they have now hit $140,000 a year. At the top 100 national firms the starting salaries hover around $105,000. If you have a background in intellectual property or information technology, you can earn signing bonuses on top of this.
If you graduate from law school at 24 and immediately start at $140k, earning 10-15% raises each year, you certainly are ahead of the game of the average b-school applicant. Prospective MBA's have to toil for 4-6 years before entering b-school to try to land that $125k job. |

I guess lawyers don't even learn the basics of a present value? What's the upside?
Also, bear in mind people are making decisions on $$$ alone. I'd rather stick an ice pick in my ear than do patent law, but I'm glad some people want to do it.
I think your ##s for regional firms are high, but you're right the national firms have recently upped their $$. That's in response to the options paid out at .coms. Guess who else is getting a lot of those options: b-school students.
