In Reply To: Is it possible to get into a good investment bank after MBA school (at a top school), without a prior experience as an analyst in IB? The job I currently have involves financial and economic analysis of companies, forecasting, and so forth (alot of things I think IB analysts do, though I may be wrong). Will passing the CFA help or is that redundant with the MBA?
Message: It's definitely possible to be recruited into an Associate program at any of the bulge bracket firms, post MBA, for people without any prior IBanking experience. In fact, many of the Analysts I knew choose not to return to banking--so it's not as if former analysts make up the majority of any Associate class. If you go to a top graduate school, it doesn't matter if it's law or business, then more than likely you will be a strong candidate. (I know several Harvard Law who were recruited into Goldman.) Remember, with so much talent flowing to the dot.coms, Ibanks and consulting firms are dying for talent. I would even venture to say that graduates of Top 10-Top 15 are all now sought after. Hope that helps.
