In Reply To: i appreciate the feedback, it gives me more confidence that intl-only work experience won't hurt me. my post-mba goals however, do not involve coming back here to work full-time. for one thing, it would be very tough to have a stable family life out here...an eventual goal of mine. the hours are ridiculous, the living conditions are like nothing in the states, and the social seperation can really wear an expat's wife out, i've seen it (mainly because there is little,if any, opportunity for them to have a job of their own). there's no doubt asia is exploding with business opportunity, and it wouldn't be too difficult to exploit that, but it's not what i want to do. i'm planning on buiding on my experience for sure, but probably in a different part of the world. is that going to hurt me? one more question...my direct supervisor is not a first-language english speaker. is there any problem with writing my own recommendation and having him sign it? we communicate fine but i'm sure his rec would be full of grammatical imperfections. any insight on this? thanks again.
Message: i had my recommenders write them in their native language, and had friends and relatives translate them, then had my recommenders review/edit them and sign them. these came out full of grammatical errors and bad spelling but the school i applied to didn't seem to mind given the outcome. i don't think schools will penalize a candidate just because his or her boss wrote a reco with bad spelling. another thing; i know that if i'd written them myself, it probably would have been obvious (the style would come out too close to that on my essays). i'm also sure the recommendations wouldn't have come out nearly as well (you'll probably write about every selling point you have in your essays. hard to come up with more. a boss can sell you from a different perspective and this can be very effective. this is also an argument against "feeding" your recommenders with stuff to write about). good luck with your application.
