In Reply To: Thanks for the input CBS and Former McK Insider. Let me explain my UG experience (sob story) more and see what you think. I had a 3.8 coming out of my soph year. This is because I was in classes with all other engineers regardless of their concentration - a big population where I could distinguish myself better. Then when my curriculum focused more, I wound up having many of my core classes with only 5-8 people (if you can believe that). So in a lot of these classes nobody got an A. Our teachers were tough. Another student and I were clearly the 2 best students, and IF there was an A in a class usually only one of us got it. After a while of getting straight B's I said screw it and became content to get my 3.0 each term. That's basically how I wound up with a 3.2. If I explain this do you think I will just sound like a baby making excuses? Also, will a 3.8 in grad classes help offset this or not really? As far as my school preferences - I grew up in a New Jersey suburb of Philly. I have a strong bias toward the northeast, and would prefer Wharton, CBS, HBS, or MIT. When should I get serious about campus visits if I am interested in starting school the fall of 2002? I haven't looked at too many other schools from this area. Do you suggest NYU or any otehrs for me to explore? I'll be looking at application stuff and some of the other stuff you suggest. By the way - I have been tutoring a 5th grader for an hour a week for the past 6 months, and plan to continue. This had nothing to do with making my resume better, but now that has occurred to me. Is this a "good enough" activity to just be a participant, or should I look for more of a leadership role and try to help in the organization of these activities too? Thx
Message: ...a rat's ass about tutoring little Billy for 6 months. I've been running marathons for 3 years. When I attach my photo of me crossing the Chicago Marathon finish line, that will signify the death of your pathetic application and your pathetic activities.
