I'm also considering getting a JD/MBA versus just an MBA. I'm fairly confident that I can get into either Harvard or Stanford business schools, but I'm not so certain I can get into their legal counterparts--my LSAT is a respectable but below average 166. A number of people I know say that it's only worth spending an extra year for the JD in a JD/MBA program if you do it at Harvard or Stanford. Assuming that I don't get into H or S law schools, but I do get into one of those b-schools, what would you do--go to b-school at H or S or do a JD/MBA program at a less prestigious university???? |

If you were in an MBA program, doing the JD/MBA program would require an extra 2 years, not one. It can't tell if you are more interested in the MBA program then the JD. I say go to H or S and forget the JD unless you really want to practice. I don't buy the networking issues associated with being in a joint degree. I think spending so much damn time in school is what sucks the most. I have kept in contact with many of the people I started school with, have made contacts with many that I will be finishing with and some that will be finishing before me. Remember, the only thing you can't do with an MBA is practice law. As I said in my post, I started the JD first and I realized I wanted to stay in business after I started. I am finishing b/c I don't like quitting something I invested so much $ and time into. I also found it fit the type of business I am in.
