First of all 200K is small money for top tier MBA's so I'm hardly jealous. Second, I was an application developer (Java), making a 150K who decided to make the career switch. You obviously are not too knowledgeable about trends in IT. I'm talking about a long term trend that has started now and will grow exponentially over the next 5-7 years. Your technical skill will be commodotized and you will be replaced by cheap labor just like all industrial jobs of the last 100 years. I sensed it coming and got the hell out. Plus, I wanted to make corporate strategic decisions rather technical ones. Don't agree? Fine. |

Hi,
I work for one of the Indian software firms in question(one of the best known ones, though I concede they are all still relatively unknown here in the US).
The guy talking about outsourcing is BANG ON. In IT, nobody gives a rat's ass about relationships. Any CIO who has his firms interests in mind can see the benefits in favor of outsourcing, which far outweigh the minor drawbacks such as cultural differences.
And I may not have a yankee twang, but my clients can understand my accent well enough to know I'm making sense!!
Having said that, I don't see why doing an MBA is necessarily the right solution. You could continue to be in the line u are in, and one day be the CIO who decides which company to outsource to!
