There is a Columbia University gym that happens to be located below the B-school (as your studying in the library, you can sometimes feel the joggers running underneath).
Facility:
I think it is actually quite nice -- they have been remodeling. On the other hand, this ain't Michigan and space is at a premium. That said, it has three levels and includes a basketball court, a trilevel weight room, pool, rowing machines, cardio (about 8 step climbers, ~10 stationary bikes, 4 Reebok cardios, 4 ergs). There are a ton of racquetball and squash courts as well. The classes are open to the b-school students. I have a friend taking body sculpting (I am still not sure what that is, but I heard it is not nearly as exciting as the name would suggest). They also have private trainers available for a pretty reasonable fee.
Cost:
We may have a gym fee thrown into the tuition, I really wouldn't know. I just sign the checks. There is a ~$35 fee for "towel service and lock" if you want to leave your stuff in a locker. But, there are also plenty of 50 cent/day locks if you have your own towels.
Spouses:
I have no clue as to whether spouses are given use of the gym. I suspect they can for an added fee, but don't quote me (then again, hey, you don't know who I am!). I do know that for $8 you can bring a guest for a day.
Availability:
Availability is an issue, despite the fact that the jocks have their own facilities. The gym gets really crowded -- remember, we have to share with the undergrads. But, you can figure out a schedule that works for you. Generally, I avoid early mornings and the 5-8pm timeframe.
Hope that covered most of your issues! |

If you're an admitted student you can check out the admitted students website and check all the costs for the gym.
