In Reply To: CBS Grad and Chicago Student, this is an outstanding thread. Very candid and very constructive. I hope it stays that way. Chicago student, I was wondering whether many of your classmates plan to stay in the Chicago area or do they plan to branch out. I am deciding between Chicago and CBS and I was wondering whether you will be able to maintain the friendships that you establish during school. I assume that a lot of the CBS grads will remain in New York, and that seems very convenient for friendships and networking. Is that the case at Chicago? Thanks for any advice.
Message: As a CBS student, I would like to give a plug for Kellogg students in New York. We here at Columbia do tend to stay in the NYC area (it is a great place) so networking locally is VERY easy. However, Kellogg students (and Dartmouth as well) have an amazingly close network in the City. "We happy few..." appears to have some application here. I would check if Chicago had a similarly close network. Can I give a really cheap plug for Columbia? We have FANTASTIC Happy Hours and social lives here. If you are a perspective student, I invite you to call admissions and ask them about the Thursday night happy hours (about 70% of the school shows each week and it is a great chance to meet the people). Free (premium) beer and either pizza or sushi (depending on the sponsor). Even if you decide not to go, it is a winning proposition! Frankly, you can't go wrong with either Chicago or CBS.
