In Reply To: Hi- I'm wondering if anybody has been through or know any significant details about the columbia 16 month program. It starts in January, works through the summer and finished in three semesters instead of four. Is it harder to get a job if you don't have the summer internship that most MBA's have between their first and second year? Thanks
Message: I was in the normal program at CBS. I would recommend the 16-month program if: a) You know what you want to do full-time already b) Have the credentials to get into that position and need only the "MBA Stamp" to get the position c) Are in a particular rush to get finished d) Are not as concerned about the MBA experience Bottom line: Employers do look at the summer job (level of prestige, as indicator of industry interest). It is particularly true for banking. I think that is one reason why HBS got rid of their program. I had a great full-time experience in the regular program and found recruiting for the summer much easier than some of the J-terms (as they're called. While the J-termers have clusters and do tend to associate with each other, they are never quite as integrated as the full-timers. Just my humble opinion -- I'd ask a J-Termer what they thought.
