Message: Okay, here's my deal: Two years ago, I applied to Bschool with 650 GMATS, three years Big Five federal tax, a CPA, and sterling recommendations. BS, accounting, small northeastearn private college known for its accounting curriculum. I was rejected from every single institution, including places like Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and NYU, where I thought I would at least have a fighting chance on the waitlist. When I followed up with the admissions officers, the general gist of their responses was, 'give us another 50 points on the GMAT, and you're in.' So what do I do? Retake the GMATS, get a 690, and apply again. Last monday, I received my last rejection (Northwestern)letter out of 12 schools I applied to. And this time, I don't think my scores or my other stats made me a 'reach' for any MBA program except maybe Stamford or Harvard (didn't apply to either). I have phoned the committees at Duke, Wharton, Tuck, and Stern. What's been the reply? 'Your application is too stock. (Our) schools received thousands of apps just like yours. There was nothing to differentiate you from the crowd.' So now what? I thought I played the game correctly, gotten all the right numbers, all the right letters, and generally put together a really good package. I want the hell out of my firm so damn badly I can taste it, and I want in at an IB even worse. Does anyone see a light at the end of my tunnel? One of my friends suggested quitting my firm and going and do somehthing completely different for a year and a half just to impress the committees. Is this sound advice? Help! J
