For me, the decision came down to whether I was an effective writer or not. I believe that I am, so I decided not to use a consultant. Their strength is in helping students put their ideas in to words and effectively answer the essays in the correct number of words.
If you aren't an effective writer or you aren't a native English speaker, there is certainly some value to them -- but be aware that some schools schools consider it unethical (Harvard, I believe).

However, I'm not a native English speaker, so I believe I'll have to use the service of a consultant.
In fact, I'm considering one of these services (MBA Exchange). So, I would like to know if they are renowned; and if possible, someone's experience with them.
Can anyone tell me what are the best consulting services, or at least the most famous?
