Message: fellow alum, i agree with some of the points you have raised however, you forget that MIT is the ONLY school in the world that has started more companies and more jobs than any other educational institution in the world. if all the companies started by MIT were a country it would be the 24th largest in the world larger than both south africa and thailand - see the 1996 Bank Boston report - this is an official database that tracked the success of MIT companies. that is amazing considering the school is not that large. 40,000 companies started including hewlett-packard, intel, lotus, arthur d little, booz allen and hamilton, gillette, kodak, raytheon, boeing, to name a few. yes, i agree the higher profile ones such as those in the consulting and financial services industry are from goldman but the true industry buffs are all dominated by mit graduates. i presume that you are in the services industry coz if you noticed the manufacturing, technology, industrial fields you will realise how many companies were started by MIT graduates. go to silicon valley with your harvard degree and i bet any day half the potential employer companies are mit grads. i have been there and i know.....a harvard degree has merit but does not have the pull an mit degree has in those industries...goldman, dlj and all these others i agree are dominated by harvard but the future belongs to MIT especially considering the tech nature of the world to come. harvard can't even come close considering my classes at harvard in 1996 were just getting used to email while mit classes were already conducted on the web!
