I understand that GMAT score is valid within 5 years. But I recently heard that the top ones will ask the applicant to retake GMAT if the score was 4 to 5 years old. Is that true?

I've never heard that... most schools just require a valid GMAT score from the time of the application (or the time of the application deadline).
