I was wondering if someone who's been through the Stanford or Columbia admissions could give me some advice. Although I am American, I currently work in the UK as a computer consultant with a management consulting firm. I was an engineering major and graduated from an excellent school--though not ivy league--with a 3.6 GPA. My GMAT's were pretty good: I got a 750. Though I would like to think that I have a pretty decent chance of getting into at least of one of these schools, I feel that I suffer from a diversity standpoint; I didn't climb Mt. Everest; I didn't ski in the Olympics; and I haven't commanded a military combat unit in Dessert Storm. Does anybody know what my chances are? Or, even better, can you give me some tips to help me get in? |

I agree with everything that the current cbs student posted. I might go one step further and try to get to know the people in the admissions office, which is one key way to distinguish yourself during the application process. Once you've established an informal relationship, it is much easier for them to remember you when they go around discussing applications.
