I've been reading this site for days on end and have to say that this theme "Are MBA's overpaid?" is ridiculous.
Investment bankers, consultants, attorneys etc (the "high earners") get on this site to basically argue back and forth about who went to an Ivy league school and who didn't. They further inflate their own egos by screaming out "hey, we make what we deserve", "supply and demand, baby -- and we're in demand" etc...
On the question of salaries,I think MBA's and attorneys make what they deserve. When you're working on a multi-million dollar deal there's no reason that the profit should only go to two or three individuals. If you're doing billion dollar deals, why shouldn't you earn $200,000+ per year yourself?
However, what is really disturbing about this site (and some people's attitude) is that we, as a generation (and rest assured, I'm making six digits also) have lost touch with what really matters. While we write our little e-mails to inflate our egos about why we deserve what we get and how great we are, there are people in Africa dying of Aids. Here in America, right this second, there are hundreds of little children starving to death, being abused and neglected, old people who have no one to turn to, little vulnerable animals who do nothing but try to please mankind and obey getting mistreated.
M.B.A.'s and attorneys make what they deserve. The market dictates their salaries, and these skills are obviously in demand. However, shouldn't we be asking ourselves what we have done for society lately?
To the person who keeps saying "its all about the money, baby" and "people are intrinsictly selfish" - I agree, people are selfish. But, there's something to be said about learning to restrain yourself, pushing to help others, and trying to be selfless. I challenge you to buck the trend instead of just being a sheep. |

With a healthy economy, there are too many fucks out there showing off their wealth. They're just lucky to be born in this capitalistic society. I challenge anyone to sit down and think whether they're really contributing to society.
