In Reply To: avoid this company like the plague. i worked for them for many years and they will destroy you. the work environment is extremely tense and everything and everyone is pushed to deliver quicker and quicker. project managers will lie about deadlines to deliver projects ahead of schedule and so curry favour with their superiors. there is no consideration for the welfare of the staff they are screwing. they promise the earth but will not deliver. 'training' comprises of being stuck on a project with a user manual and having to fend for yourself. fine you may think. but you will be expected to deliver the results of an expert programmer from day one and at speed - there is no quarter given for the fact that you dont immediately have the skills. there is a big bullying culture which prevents you from complaining about such behaviour and a steadfast refusal to accept responsibility for any wrong-doing. and believe me, there are enough top managers who have bought into that culture to ensure its perpetuated and stories are watertight. jobs on projects are assigned on a who you know basis and nepotism is rife. complaints fall on deaf ears and practices like this are considered 'facts of life'. its almost like some sort of secret society. if you do become a project manager's 'favourite' you will have a chance of at least getting more money than colleagues with the same or better skills. otherwise, you will have to get out - and believe me, this WILL be pointed out as an option. the organisation actually operates with the strategy of recruiting smart, young grads who (a) will do anything to impress and (b) are cheap, then flog them until they are burnt out. thats not just me talking, thats a view of many of its clients in the industry. unfortunately, if you are ambitious and a fighter you will not give up and will end up staring out of windows all day like a vegetable. to be fair, the people in the wales office were really nice - but that's largely because they were the staff of a company which had been bought by LogicaCMG. that was a couple of years ago, the company culture may have destroyed that friendliness and good working environment.
Message: Hi, I am thinking of applying to LogicaCMG. From what I have read on their website and some of the gold surveys I have found that it is a company where there (1) is a good work/life balance. People can start and leave early when necessary. Overtime is minimal (2) Pay though is not that great. Any opinions? jockoman - how long have you been at Logica and do you mind saying what area you work in (because is it only in certain business areas which have issues)? Cheers
