I am considering moving to NYC after graduation. I wanted to know if anyone knows the starting salaries at some of the big law firms like Skadden, etc? How much could I expect with overtime in my first year? Do any of the legal assistant jobs give signing bonuses or other perks when you first start out? |

I worked at a big nyc law firm for a year as a paralegal, beginning in august 2001. the base is $35K. this is standard at most of the big firms, although somebody told me that Cravath is $37K. nevertheless, there are no signing bonuses or perks when you start. depending on the firm you could get a bonus at christmas, i got a $500 bonus just three months after starting. Also, overtime varies widely per firm. My firm promised me $50K minimum with overtime. I knew many people who doubled their salary ($70K) with overtime, but keep in mind, that's A LOT of overtime.
