To be clear your friend could claim "Doctor of Law" or just decline to abreviate JD on her name and say Juris Doctor. It is correct although uncommon and may be frowned upon by some. If your friend was not clear and just used Doctor is could be considered misleading although it could still be considered correct.
No matter what some what to say about a JD being a professional degree, it is still a Doctor level degree.
I don't know why Lawyers do not choose to refer to themselves as doctor, but as a group it is uncommon so one doing so may recieve the scorn of others. |
