I am saddened by many of the comments I have read on this message board. It has made me realize that racism is still ALIVE AND thriving in America.
It is so unfortunate that people can be so angry that they believe that the only way to fight violence is with violence. I worked for the last four years at 2 World Trade Center, 16th floor in New York. My colleagues and I escaped the 16th floor of the trade center at unscathed by the grace of God on September 11th. Yet I am not as angry as some of the people on this message board. It wil NEVER be OK to profile people because of their religion, race or otherwise. It is never OK to blame everyone, for the actions of a few. It is not OK for us to perpetuate racism and intolerance. Enough of the anger and hatred! As Americans we MUST find more positvie ways to channel our frustration and anger. Hatred, profiling and violence isn't the way. Some white's will never understand what it is to be a minority in America. Walk a day in my shoes...and then let's talk. |

jlal71, I would like to thank you for your post. I, too, read through every last post, saddened, looking for someone who seemed somewhat objective about the situation. Imagine my relief upon reading your post. I am neither an American, nor a Muslim, nor an Arab. I am a Black, female, foreigner who knows as well as anyone that the USA is riddled with racism, ethnocentrism, and sexism. Do not get me wrong. I denounce the actions of September 11 as I never believe in the shedding of innocent blood, and I know people in my country feel the same. Additionally, there are clearly positive aspects of the USA and it's culture that attracts people like myself. But, in all the prosperity and freedom, I urge Americans to not be lax, but seek to perfect their culture further by ridding it of the above-mentioned vices with the same urgency as you point fingers.
