In Reply To: I received the same letter. I thought the line about how most deferrals have been subsequently admitted in past years was unusual. It makes you want to think that you will ultimately get in, but the "past years" part also hints that the competition this year may in some way be different. Good luck.
Message: The letter reads "deferred students have been subsequently admitted in past years", no "most", thus making it a totally ambiguous sentence, impossible to be read either positively or negatively. The entire letter is phrased in this ambiguous tone, so I don't think any conclusion on our chances can be drawn from the text itself.
