the way to be a good mom while holding down a job as an attorney is to work for the court system. They are generous w/ maternity leave, and vacation and sick time and offer good benefits. Most of the jobs are 9 too 5. You will not get rich, but the salary is reasonable, and raises are regular. Plus you make contacts w/ important people (read: Judges) who can help you to find more lucrative work once your children are a little older and you can afford to devote more time to work. It really is the ideal situation for the Mom/attorney. The other plus about working for the ct system is that they don't resent yr family obligations like private busineses do. I'm a 31 yr old woman, and last yr while interviewing every single firm mananged to subtley inquire into my current and future child bearing/rearing plans. The Ct System did not.
