In Reply To: And you sound like a college student who needs to grow up. Do you know what it's like to come out of a graduate program for 3 or 4 years of your life owing 60-80-100K+ in NON-DISCHARGABLE student loans? I do. This ain't chump change and it doesn't go away. Now, that situation with a low-paying 30-40K/yr job or NO JOB or prospects? I do. And so does Bob. It isn't pretty. What Bob says, and I also say isn't "discouragement". It's the truth. The naked truth. Law schools don't care what happens after graduation. They have the money. The student has massive debt. Law schools have willingly fucked up many, many peoples' lives by propogating the lie that law school degree = BIGLAW = $$$$. This is true for a VERY SMALL prcentage of graduates. Bob-d and I do not make the rules. The legal market does. Look in your local phone book (yellow pages). How come so many attorneys are listed? Why aren't they at BIGLAW. Supply and demand. I suggest you grow up, take your head out of your ass, and understand that the world is full of con artists. This includes, unfortunately, our educational institutions. People don't care about people. They only care when you have the money.
Message: but lets not go around blaming others for our problems. Nobody promised you anything. Remember that. I am sorry that you have a massive debt-load. I didn't take those loans out - you did. You don't get anywhere in life pissing and moaning and you certainly don't get anywhere blaming law schools for your lack of employment opportunities. If you are a good attorney, prove it - find yourself a higher paying job. Make it happen. Please do not sit around all day venting your frustrations on those who wish to actually BE SUCCESSFUL, instead of whining all day because the riches and glory they were promised didn't materialize. If you aren't a good attorney, well, it looks like you didn't make some good decisions along the way. Make the best of it. Now, I am all in favor of being realistic when offering advice about the situation out there and one's chances for success. Some people actually wish to attend law school to ACTUALLY STUDY THE LAW, not just to make a pile of cash. Look in your phone book - maybe some of those law firms are hiring.
