In Reply To: He should try living in Newark sometime then he'll realize that smart disadvantaged people do exist and their the ones that AA is for, even if their not black. Every AA program I have ever heard of uses race as the barometer to evaluate adversity. Name me one program that uses socio-economic factors that would benefit, say, a white male from Compton. They don't exist. They should, b/c that would truly help those who have been disadvantaged by stigma in their lives, as opposed to a black preppy yuppie from NYC.

They don't exist. >>> If you do some simple statistical analysis, (like poor white kids get higher SAT scores, on average, than upper-middle class black kids, and MUCH higher SAT scores than poor black kids), it becomes apparent that a program that uses socio-economic factors and not race would do very LITTLE do bring in more black students. It would just bring in more white students and Asian students. Schools don't want more of those students. They want more BLACK students.
