In Reply To: is there any chance at a top 15 school with a 3.35 GPA with a double major in accounting and finance and an lsat of 170 (undergrad top 25) Any help would be appreciated
Message: First, admissions officers will give a hard look at anyone with a 170 regardless of where your grades fall. Will you get into HYS? I say no. BUt, fret not. From there, you have to look at the top schools to which you're applying in isolation for each admissions office will stress the components of an applicant's record differently. Some give more weight to grades and some give more weight to LSAT and some look for extracurriculars. Also be wary of the state schools in the top 15 b/c most tend to have a strong bias in favor of instate students (see UVa). The fact that you have reasonable grades in a challenging course of study from a recognized undergraduate institution bodes well for you. In combination w/ a 170, I would say you definitely have a shot at some excellent schools. So, my advice is to get your hands on the admission catalogues for the schools that interest you b/c they typically contain a graph breaking down the probability of acceptance for applicants with a particular set of grades and a particular LSAT. Good luck.
