In Reply To: I've been thinking about it alot lately, and I think that being a Law School Professor is something that I would really enjoy. I was admitted to a Top 3 school, but deferred this year, so I could put a little money in my pocket. However, I am wondering if there is any school out there that would be best for a prospective law professor. Should I reapply elsewhere? If so, how much better is it than say HLS or YLS. Also does anyone know about the requirements to be a prof. Clearly top grades (aka law review) are at the forefront, but what else. Do you need an LLM (in what?), or something further? Thanks.
Message: There are no real requirements for getting a law teaching job; an LLM is certainly not necessary, especially if your JD is from Yale or Harvard. From seeing which of my classmates have done the best on the academic market, the keys (beyond clerkships and law journal) would seem to be: (1) getting something published (even a note); and (2) having some big-name profs on your side. The latter point, of course, is also key to getting a top clerkship, so you should start sucking up to a couple of profs your first year and try to become someone's research assistant. Try to do the sucking up discreetly, unless you want your classmates to despise you.
