Yes. Exactly.
When I say "majority", I mean vast majority.
Who makes those 125K salaries starting? 1 of every one hundred lawyers or less I'd say, based on my own school's statistics. Those are telling numbers.
As others have said, it is true that one can make a lot of money in law. But the odds of that happening to any one individual entering law school are very slim.
Others on this board have put it directly: Law is not worth the risk. The massive debt simply does not justify the risk.
If those considering law school knew the simple truth, the schools would be out of business. If the majority quit after not making first-year law review, the schools would be out of business. If entering students knew the hard math of post law school life, the schools would be out of business.
While it's interesting that someone from a top 5 school, also married to a physician, is so free with advice, I feel compelled to note that 99 percent of graduating law students will neither graduate from a top 5 school nor marry a physician.
This poster's circumstances are highly atypical, to say the least.
As for those with BA or BS degrees not making any money, perhaps by her standards they don't. However, the majority of law graduates only make salaries comparable to those with BA and BS degrees and must pay down their debt (calculations courtesy of Bob).
I'm sure her husband, making six figures post age 30, doesn't mind too much. Everyone gets older, not younger. And it's not where you start, but where you finish that counts.

I agree with you 100%. I was lucky and good enough to get 120k out of school, but it's rare. I went to UT and only about 20 people in my entire class got 120 or more. It's so rare. And UT has one of the biggest graduating classes as well.
I don't know where I will be if I don't make partner at my firm which is kind of scary. Most of my colleagues join boutiques or other firms. And we are the lucky ones. You should totally go for medicine if you can hack it.
