In Reply To: HI EVERYONE, I have a 3.469 gpa at a good midwest university and a 153 LSAT score. Any advice on what are some schools that are very well known that I have a decent chance of getting into? Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
Message: With mediocre stats, you may want to be very geographically strategic in a poor legal economy. Of course in 2005, it will probably have rebounded. Are you going to be in a specialty? Are you staying the midwest? You can retake the LSAT no? If you are staying in the midwest, remember that Ohio always has a glut of new attorneys (becuase of the six state schools), so OSU, UC and CWRU may not be good choices in this economy, even if you could get in. Michigan does not have another decent school besides the state U, nor does Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin, unless you are going to practice there definitely. If you are going east, choose your city carefully. DC, you may be able to get into American, Catholic (not as good a local rep.); George Mason. Philly: Temple. These places there is some local recruiting for both the private and public sectors. I don't know about NYC, Boston or Baltimore or the south. St. John's, Cardozo and Brooklyn (maybe). The bay area is down as well right now, but will have rebounded in 2005. You may be able to get into Santa Clara where there used to be good local recruiting by big firms. Look in the area you want to practice and look at the school alumns to get a good idea of local recruiting practices.good luck.
