I just finished my first year of law school and am trying to decide on where to work in LA for next summer (and after law school). Assuming I can go anywhere, where can I make the most money (i.e. comparable to NY bonuses)??
I'd like to do entertainment work, which I guess would put me somewhere like O'Melveny or Gibson, but do they pay as much as NY firms? Are there any other good entertainment firms in LA where I can make $165 after bonus??
Any info would be much appreciated. |

If you want to make NY style bonuses in LA, then your best option is to work for an LA branch office of a NY firm. Options would include Skadden Arps, Sullivan & Cromwell, Simpson Thacher, White & Case etc. Skadden has, by far, the most successful LA office.
LA firms pretty much pay the same base salary as NY firms, but you will probably not make as much when you factor in the bonuses. If you are willing to bill a LOT of hours, then you can make a lot of $ at Latham/Gibson/OMM, since most of them now follow hours-based bonus systems.
Locally based entertainment firms in LA don't pay as much as you would think.
