In Reply To: Is it tough to find a patent job as an industrial engineer...is patent work boring
Message: If you are talented as a patent attorney you have to learn a bunch of new technologies on the fly anyway. IE may be a drawback for some firms, when they really want EEs and CSs, but there are such a shortage of EEs/CSs right now, that IEs and physicists and even MEs can get hired if they can do the work. Knowing a lot about EE principles helps, which I am sure is part of the curriculum of IE. Patent prosecution work is both painfully boring and exciting at the same time. The work is boring, total immersion in new technology is exciting. If you are an attorney you get to do the more exciting parts of technology like the licensing and financing deals. Agents don't.
