You MUST know someone who can get your resume on the right desk from law school, fellow student, professors?. Front door attempts are very futile at most agencies (3000+ resumes in a barrel for any postings). IF you have a history of public service (i.e. clinic, legal aid, internship) your chances are much better. If you did not graduate from a top tier school, DOJ and US atty are not likely places to start.
BTW, you had better pretend like hell you are interested in the work the agency does.
At the worst, walk into each agency you are interested and see if you can talk to the person who may be hiring. Your resume will be on their desk before it goes into the
big resume barrel. I saw over 3,000 resumes stacked up at HUD once. I only made the final round cause of public service. |

contrary to popular belief, gov't and public service positions are very hard to get..there are so few spots and so many applicants..the best way to get into an agency you wnat is to intern there as a law student..moreover, you shoudl contact the people at your career services department or go to the napil.org website-they might have info-good luck and stay away from old, corrupt guys in DC especially if you are a female!!!
