In Reply To: Your initial post said you were in a top JD/MBA program. Given those credentials and assuming that you have both some work experience and an impressive undergrad record (both of which you probably have if you've jumped the admission hurdles of both schools), you can obviously get a law or business job at a top firm, whether law, banking, or consulting. However, and I'm saying this as someone who is actually trying to be helpful, you're not going to get that top job if the banks think you're dicking them around. If you indicate you want to clerk, you immediately send up red flags that you're not 100% serious about banking. This is never good when you're asking them to hire you. Maybe in a different job market you could get away with this (if you're at a top school). But at present, you're just going to shoot yourself in the foot. Life is about choices, and even though a JD/MBA is great for keeping doors open, sometimes you actually have to shut a door or two. Best of luck.
Message: This advice is true for any job search. Use some common sense. If you were hiring a contractor to fix your leaking room, would you hire that person when s/he tells you that he's not sure whether he wants to be a contractor or a philosopher?
