Opportunity to make big money is present in many areas of the law. Right now, litigators are in high demand at big prestigious law firms (more so than corporate people). For those with good science backgrounds, IP has always been really good -- they often make more than their fellow associates at law firms. Because of the sluggish economy, bankruptcy attorneys are really busy right now.
Associates at law firms all make pretty much the same amount, so join a law firm and watch the dough roll in. |

chances are, you'll never make as much as a top CEO. Every CEO of a big company is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. However, maybe one out of a million aspiring to become a top CEO makes it.
Partners at the most prestigious law firms make a few million a year, and partners in general make at least 250k regardless of firm size and location. That's much better than 99 percent of the population, so from that perspective, you're doing alright.
Being an entrepreneur can make you wealthy, but again, the odds are stacked against you. If you're smart and work hard, you'll make a good lawyer, but the same does not necessarily hold true for entrepreneurs.
The safest route to riches is by being an investment banker--any good lawyer has enough intelligence to do it, and the pay is a helluva lot better. I'd rather work like a slave at a bank than at a law firm. Both jobs suck, but one pays a lot more than the other.
