Let's think up a list of common mistakes that would be useful for prospective law students. Below is my attempt to get such a list going:
1. Justify going into BIGDEBT because he/she expects to make it into BIGLAW.
2. He/she places too much emphasis on US News & World Report Rankings.
3. He/she fails to research the relavant job market.

Go to a second-tier school.
All true first tier (top 8) students can justify any amount of debt. Biglaw will open its doors, smile warmly, give these lawyers a big hug, a 72 hour session at the printers and a 40K bonus, all in the first year.
