Enough about briefing. Briefing per se is useless but always book brief.
Success in law school comes down to grades and grades come down to exams. The fact of the matter is that schools (or at least mine) do an excellent job in teaching you the law, but they do not teach on how to take law school exams. This is a completely different monster than those you encountered in college. Go to the library take out old exams and practice and for safe measure have an attorney or better yet a professor (for those of you blessed w/ a benevolent faculty member) critique your answers. This my friends is the difference between an B and an A.
