I really have to disagree with all those people who would pick columbia over NYU. I went to both schools, and as a matter of fact I transferred from CLS to NYU because NYU is just a much more human place to study at. At columbia people really seemed to have lost the big picture of what life is about namely personal happiness. It is an extremely competitive place and people will not begrudge you the bread you eat. Moreover, a lot of people seemed to be just shooting crap in class to "stand out". I was very uncomfortable there. |

I think that competition is what you make of it. I attend CLS and do not find it to be a competitive atmosphere, unless you surround yourself by the small minority of students who make it their aim to compete. That type of group will be present at any top law school. I have also found that CLS offers a really nice social community, while one of my best friends who attends NYU has found NYU to be isolating. I think that in general if you are happy you will gravitate towards happy people wherever you go, and you will probably have a good experience at either school if you go into it with a positive attitude. I love CLS.
