In Reply To: Both schools are arguably the same, UMinn slightly more selective, UT slightly higher ranked (this year anyway). You should base your decision on WHERE you want to live or practice after graduation. Congrats and good luck.
Message: Minnesota is a good school, if that's where you want to work, you should go there. But, it is not as good a school as UT by any stretch. UT outranks it in almost every category and markedly so in terms of its reputation among Judges and Lawyers (the most important ranking bc those are the people that hire you and make your career). UT's ranking among academics is also much greater, and UT consistently ranks in the top ten law schools in other surveys. Not so in USNEWS because USNEWS has certain criteria that aritficially deflate UT's ranking (the amount of financial aid, for example, is much lower bc UT is so inexpensive in the first place). The previous poster's remark about higher selectivity is misleading. They have slightly higher LSAT's and slightly lower GPA's, but the only reason that Minnesota admits slightly lower proportion of people is that their class size is almost 60% smaller overall. If they admitted a UT sized class, their admittance rate would be extremely high. This is not to knock Minnesota, I have a great amount of respect for it and there is no reason not to go there. But, it is not quite on UT's level.
