I've heard that Osgoode Hall Law School is considered the most prestigious law school in Canada and is known as the "Harvard" of the north. Is this true? |

Look the bottom line is that you have to choose your goals. If you have definitely decided that you want to work in the US (job prospects, family, etc.), then it's safer overall for you to go to an American school. However, if you would like the option of practicing in either the US or Canada (lifestyle choice, family, etc.), or have financial difficulties (the tuition for a Canadian law school is considerably less than that for an American law school), then I would say go to one of the top three Canadian law schools: Osgoode, U of T, or McGill. If you take a law degree at a Canadian school, then you have the option of either going down to the US or staying to practice in Canada - the problem however is that in order for a Canadian student to be recruited by a US firm, you have to rank fairly high in your law school class. But, if you're competitive, think you can place near the top of your class in terms of GPA, have financial difficulties, and would like the option of practicing in either the US or Canada because of personal reasons or preferences, then I would say go for a Canadian law school - and Osgoode is a strong choice.
