In Reply To: Which has the better quality of life? Does the difference changes as you get higher up in an investment bank? Weigh in please...I'm in college right now at Wharton (a junior) and I'm beginning to "plot out" my career. I like business very much (well, I'm at wharton so..) but I know there are mergers and acquistions lawyers who deal in the same stuff...I, however, do want some sort of a life and the ability to keep a relationship alive, so I was wondering if there really is NO life what so ever for bankers...thanks
Message: I have no experience in the law profession, however I can shed some light on Banking. Dependent on which group you are placed in and on the deal flow of the firm, I have seen a variety of hours worked by my college friends from Stern and I. Ranging from as good as 65 hrs/wk (Mon-Fri)to as bad as 110 hrs/week (Mon-Sun). Keeping a life is not impossible, but when you simply calculate the hours in a per day basis, you will realize that either choice you make here will definitely result in a DECREASE in your "fun level". There just may not be time. On top of it all, you will probably on call if you are staffed on a big deal.
