Brooklyn transfer to NYU? |

I'm a student at Brooklyn (not 1L) and wonder why the hell do you want to leave?! Brooklyn has a pretty good rep here in the city and after you get past the LSAT and admissions, its grades from here on. As far as transferring I know 5 people from my 1L class who did so. Person ranked # 3 (automatically graded onto Law Review) and transferred to NYU. She did at as a "gee lets see if i get in just for fun" and she was accepted. She has a pretty notorious reputation amongs my friends (won't mention her name) but she did land a lot of interviews and will work for one of the top5 or 10 law firms in the city. However she admitted she was asked by attorneys "so why move from Brooklyn where you had a full scholarship, free housing and Law Review job lined up for middle of pack NYU?" Reminder: you always have to put down EVERY law school attended on your resume.
Person # 2 transferred to Northwestern because she had family there, she was ranked top 15 or 20% and had a pretty good undergrad record (YES they do look at that) at a prestigious Illinois university and solid work experience. Person # 3 was an elitist and left for Columbia because he wanted to work at Cravath (he was hispanic and landed an offer at a big firm not ranked top 50 by vault) but had an amazing rank (top 10 or 20 people). Person ranked # 4 left for another law school in the South (cant remember Tulane or Emory) just because he hated being in NY.
As far as the procedure: Columbia takes about 40-50 people each year. From Brooklyn you need top 10% to get serious consideration. For Fordham (which isn't really worth it) you need just top 1/3rd (3.2or 3.3 GPA). Don't start the process until you get the rank - which is in July. Most apps dont get looked at until late June or July and decisions are made on a rolling basis.
-surprised 3L.
