Message: I understand what you mean about the lack of quality legal secretaries. I've been a patent legal secretary off and on for seven years and I really like it and I think I'm very good at it. The thing about this area of law is that alot of the work is in the details and it's really tough to find people who are willing, let alone capable of assuming responsibility for seeing that things get done right. It's also hard to find people who are really interested in this type of work and are willing to learn. Seems like they're just in it for the money and they don't really take pride in their work. Another problem is finding firms and attorneys who appreciate highly skilled secretaries and allow them to contribute. Seems like the standard has been lowered because of all of these unskilled and poorly trained people trying to become legal secretaries. I had to explain what prosecution was to one secretary I was trying to train. It is very frustrating indeed!!
